Artist's Comments
I was coming back inside from checking the mail, when I heard a strange sound from one of the trees planted near our apartment building. Imagine my surprise when I looked over and saw a Kodama- a tree spirit- sitting there staring back at me! I quickly ran back inside and came out again with my camera. This shy little guy let me take quite a few pictures of him before he disappeared again into the leaves.
This was the last shot I got of him before he disappeared, leaving only a rattling noise from his head as he went... (This plushie is for sale! He was pretty simple, and is a little wonky in the head and feet... so he's only $30!) Stats: 12 inches tall 3 days work (one day cutting out fabric, one day sewing/stuffing, one day finishing) White flannel Features painted on with acrylic paint. By the way, I used Baby London Star's Pattern, which is really not right in the body style for a Kodama, but I wanted to practice the pattern, so I decided I'd make something simple AND recognizable for my gallery. |
